SAILING AND ENVIRONMENT,  a Granville Project

Starting in 2004

*      When ? Who is concerned ?

·        We worked out a project which would  be operative every year (for ten years)

·        The optimal time would be a week  (last week of august)

·        It would concern 4 young people (aged 13-16) and one adult in charge of them for each town.

·        The maximum number of towns involved will be 6. The minimum will be 3.

·        It is open to all towns. For inland towns sailing would be an initiation. All Douzelage towns can apply for it and participate within three years.

*      Accommodation

§         The 24 douzelage youngsters (4x6) will be paired with 24  Granville youngsters involved in the sailing club and the sailing classes (college and Lycée).

§         Each of them will stay in the host family of their French partner. (bed and breakfast and evening meal)

§         Both Douzelage and Granville youngsters will spend the day together ( sailing activities and coastal visits). They will all have  lunch at the sailing school (CRNG).

*      Adults in charge

§         6 douzelage adults from the visiting towns. They could be lodged in the CRNG. They ‘ll participate to the activities (except for  the sailing which has its own experienced staff) During the sailing sessions they could meet and discuss on a special topic (preparing a different project for exemple)

§         Members of the Granville Douzelage committee. They’ll participate to the activities when possible. And meet the visiting adults during sailing sessions.

§         The host families. They’ll take the young participants to the CRNG in the morning and pick them up at the end of the activities.

*      Programme

Two main activities:

·        Environment (7 or 8 visits): Discovering of Granville and the coastal areas nearby. Information about the ecosystem due to the important tides, about the activities, past and present concerning this ecosystem, and of the fragile biology balance of this ecosystem. The Natura 2000 project and the way it is discussed among the concerned population.

·        Sailing activities : (4 or 5 sessions)

*      Financing
